1 Welcome, opening and meeting logistics

Chris Bieneman, chair of TC57, began the teleconference and welcomed attendees. Attendees were reminded of the committee’s code of conduct, Ecma’s IPR policy, and TC57’s royalty-free patent policy extension. All attendees were informed that the meeting was recorded and transcribed by Zoom for the purpose of note-taking, and directed to review the video recording and legal disclaimer if they were not familiar.

2 Approval of the minutes of the virtual meeting of 18 August 2026

In addition to publication to the Ecma file server and distribution to Ecma members, the minutes are published as a pull request on GitHub. The committee confirmed they’d reviewed the PR and the vice chair merged it.

5.3 Future proposal advancement

Delegates are reminded that the following interrelated proposals will be seeking stage advancement at the next meeting, and are asked to kindly review and discuss the relevant pull requests in the meantime.

6 Discussions

6.1 Normative consensus PRs

There were no normative consensus PRs to merge on the agenda.

6.2 groupshared resources (hlsl-tc57/tc57#170)

The committee discussed the issue, and reached consensus that it identified a defect, and should go through the defect process.

6.3 Const correctness (hlsl-tc57/tc57#137)

Gregory Roth (Nvidia) raised a concern regarding potential breaking changes in the associated proposal, regardless of how the compiler treated it in the past. Justin Bogner (Microsoft) requested a small code example to help understand how the change would be a breaking one, which Gregory offered to pass along.

Chris Bieneman (Microsoft) wrote a simplistic example of the behaviour under discussion in hlsl-tc57/tc57#137, to confirm all parties were discussing the same scenario.

Ultimately, Gregory Roth explicitly refrains from blocking, and Nvidia will continue to discuss internally.

6.4 Overload resolution

Implementations may or may not be able to conform with overload resolution changes at the time of publication, but the committee agrees that the changes are worth the pain in the long run.

The decisions made in the overload resolution proposal will impact any other proposal impacting the standard library.

6.5 Math Conversion Functions (hlsl-tc57/tc57#179)

The math conversion functions PR, being one of those changes which is impacted by overload resolution, will seek approval to merge at the next meeting. Delegates are requested to review quickly so concerns can be resolved before that time.

7 Any other business

There will be a chair election on 29 September, potential candidates should make their intensions known on GitHub as soon as possible.
